"Personal Preferences" AKA 2 RECS
Nov. 13th, 2014 08:12 pmEveryone has personal preferences when listening to or creating podfics: length, music, story telling style, rating, etc. Come talk about them at pod_aware on DW, LJ or Tumblr to find out.
I thought about this topic for quite a while, and really, what is more 'personal preference' than what podfics we like. So, two recs for you:
1) [Podfic] beautiful and afraid of nothing by
croissantkatie, text written by
lady_ragnell - Les Mis - Cosette Fauchelevent/Éponine Thénardier - 17 min.
Summary:My best friend is here, and well, she's a little shy, but we do everything together, Éponine is saying, purring.
This is where the target dies, and he doesn't even know it.
I am a recent convert to Les Mis, and the lack of fic for this pairing left me desolate. This podfic really works for me and I loved the dark dynamic between the characters. I LOVE how
croissantkatie captures these two awesome women and how their relationship is conveyed through Cosette's point of view.
croissantkatie really gets underneath the 'good girl' persona and shows us a different, darker version than we're used to. The performance builds a really ominous atmosphere and I could not stop listening, luckily the podfic is only 17 minutes, and what a captivating 17 minutes it is. This is a truly fantastic podfic!
2) [Podfic] A distinct lack of tutus by
aethel,
argentumlupine,
bessyboo,
exmanhater,
klb,
marianas,
Rhea,
rivers_bend, and
templemarker , text written by
Fahye - Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Amy Santiago/Rosa Diaz - 18 min
Summary: Full-cast podfic of a fic by Fayhe, recorded at Pacificon 2014.
Author's Summary: "Sure, whatever," says Diaz. She slouches even further into today's leather jacket. "Women hit on me all the time. I know how to handle it."
First of all, multi-voice podfics are a delight! And multi-voice projects where all the readers are in the same place are like fannish magic. I feel like the energy comes through in the performances, I feel like I can hear how much fun the readers are having. Brooklyn nine-nine is a perfect fandom for such an amazing pool of talent. I love how the different voices capture the ensemble cast of the show and it really worked for me as a listener. Every single performer in this piece is fabulous.
Rhea's narration is stellar, I love how Amy's inner monologue is so perfectly captured.
templemarker's Rosa is perfection.
bessyboo's moments of Peralta are golden! I could literally list every actor here, because they are all awesome. An A+ choice listen.
