Repodding is when a podfic is made of a fic that has already been podficced. Podfic is awesome, therefore two podfics is even more awesome, right? Every podficcer brings something different to the table and it's fun to see how different podficcers approach the same thing. To find out more about repodding, check out [livejournal.com profile] pod_aware on LJ or DW.

Also: beta credit to [livejournal.com profile] ina_pok for both versions of this podfic. She has been really great in getting my pod_aware stuff back to me despite the fact that she has a real life.

I can't seem to listen to myself on these podcasts, and I don't know if this made it into the podcast, but I have a story about my recent experiences with repodding. First of all, I take all the blame, the author was super polite and nice, and in the end it all worked out, and I hope everyone was happy.

As I mentioned on 'Accent day' I wanted to do a repod, because a) multiple versions are awesome, and b) I wanted to do an American accent experiment and the recording would help with that.

I asked about the ettiquette, and sent off a quick fire lj message to [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact, her response was: 'Sure, go for it. If the authors are cool with it, then it's fine'. So, far so, good. Anyway, mrsronweasley does not have blanket permission so I sent her a lj message saying, reproduced in its entirety: 'Hi! I loved your story Party Games and I enjoyed the podfic by shiningartifact a lot too. For pod_aware - http://pod-aware.livejournal.com/ - I would love to make a repod of this story. Hope you're alright with this idea.
Thanks a lot. xxxx'

Can you see where I went wrong?

Anyway, I got a response saying 'Thank you so much! I'm VERY flattered, but I feel like since a podfic of it already exists, I'd rather it not get repodded.'

This is a perfectly acceptable response, as an author she has this right.

Things I did wrong:

1) I did not explain what repodding is. Not everyone is aware of repodding, and there exists a belief that repodding is redundant or superfluous.

2) I did not explain that shiningartifact was fine with the idea. I think this is the most important thing I forgot to mention.

After some nudging, I messaged the author again, basically taking all the blame and grovelling for another chance to explain.

In the end it all worked out! (If the author finds her way over here: I'd love for you to talk about how this all made you feel).

Anyway, people who want to repod (DO IT or in the words of [livejournal.com profile] paraka DO EEET!) learn from my mistakes and remember to explain what repodding is or provide a link to multipodicity or the repod page on fanlore, do this for both podfic and author messages and tell the author that the original podfic artist is ok with it.
