The Untamed/MDZS Bedtime Comfort Pods
Jun. 4th, 2020 04:23 pmBedtime Comfort Pods can be hard to define, but for me they are things I listen to when I'm expecting to be able to fall asleep after listening. For this they should be under an hour (if they are longer I may deliberately stay up longer to finish), not be too distressing and I have to have listened to them before (if I am extremely sleepy I may need to not finish them). Ideally they should also leave me feeling happy and soft.

Before we go I would like to stress that I often make this with whatever amounts of basil or pistachios I have and routinely mess with the ratios. Below are the measures I used when I made the pesto today.
Ingredients:
This makes enough for 4/5 people to have a pasta with pesto meal.
75g bunch of Basil - I had 42g once I had picked all the leaves
100g pistachios
Juice and zest of one lemon - I had 75g of juice (which may be too much lemon for some)
25g parmesan cheese (omit for the vegan version)
100ml olive oil
2 cloves of garlic
Pinch of salt to taste
1) I used a pestle and mortar because I like to take my aggression out and I like the rough texture, but you can use a blender no problem. Pound/blend the picked basil leaves and pistachios. If you're having problems with the blender add the olive oil slowly while you blend.
2) Add the lemon zest and half the juice. Taste. If you like the lemon flavour move on, otherwise add the rest of the juice.
3) Crush the garlic and grate the cheese and add to the mixture.
4) Add the olive oil and salt.
5) Taste.
6) Add more oil/cheese/salt for taste and/or texture.

Star Wars
I have a lot of Star Wars feelings - just no Kylo Ren or Hux. I really love time travel and fix-its. I have a particular love for:
Prequels: Padme Amidala & Obi-Wan Kenobi are my favs and fic focusing on either/both of them would be super. I also have great affection for the OT3 Padme/Obi-Wan/Anakin.
The Clone Wars: See above, but also, Clones! Ahsoka Tano! Satine Kryze!

In the hopes of securing a quick peace, the Jedi Council has dispatched two Jedi to capture or kill the leaders of the separatist movement, Queen Amidala of Naboo and her lover, the former Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Into this period of conflict have come four refugees from another universe, fleeing a devastating massacre triggered by the death of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, secretly the Sith lord Darth Sidious, at the hands of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker…
reena_jenkins is AMAZING! I was a beta for this, so I listened week-to-week and loved every minute of it. Now, the podfic is complete and it is awesome! reena_jenkins does an incredible job with the full cast of characters (seriously, SO many characters), including two versions of the same characters (Padme, Anakin, and Obi-Wan). There are great, but subtle, special effects, and on point musical choices - reena_jenkins is incredibly creative. The performance comes across as effortlessly consistent and it is full of intense, emotional character performances. 2) Nebulae Vid by

A beautiful vid that uses a poem, which is such a beautiful performance, music, and film. The combination is haunting and incredibly emotionally poignant.

Beautiful story from MJ's perspective. There is friendship, romance, and action! Her relationship with Peter is an important part of the story, but so is her friendship with Liz, I love that Liz wasn't just swept away. Such a delightful story!
Salted Caramel Tiramisu

For the Salted Caramel
80ml double cream
1 tsp salt
100g caster sugar
1 tbsp golden syrup
2 tbsp water
(I always make two or three times this amount and keep it in the fridge)
1) Heat the caster sugar, golden syrup, and water over a medium boil for 10 minutes, watch carefully in case it begins to turn too dark and burn. The sugar should turn a light golden colour and bubble happily
2) Heat the cream and salt until just boiled.
3) Take the sugar mixture off the boil.
4) Add the cream to the sugar mixture slowly and carefully, the mixture will dramatically increase in size and then calm down again.
5) Leave to cool completely.
For the Tiramisu
1 packet of Savoiardi biscuits (in a pinch you can use trifle sponges)
200ml coffee (I used fresh coffee, but you can use instant)
3 tbsp alcohol (I used whisky, but other alternatives could be white rum, brandy, or amaretto)
4 eggs (separated)
4 tbsp caster sugar
300ml double cream
500ml mascarpone
Bowl (I used a large glass bowl approx 11 inches across)
1) Mix the coffee and alcohol and set to one side.
2) Whip the cream.
3) Whisk the egg yolks, sugar and mascarpone together.
4) Fold the cream into the egg yolk mixture.
5) Whisk the egg whites until stiff, fold in the cream mixture. Taste and add more sugar if necessary.
6) To assemble the Tiramisu dip the biscuits in the coffee mixture and line the base of the bowl (I recommend submerging the biscuits completely and removing quickly). Then add a layer of the cream mixture. Then add a layer of salted caramel. Repeat the 3 layers until you fill the bowl, finishing with the cream layer. You can swirl more caramel sauce here for decoration or grate some dark chocolate.
7) Chill for at least an hour before eating.
8) Serve with MORE salted caramel.
