The Untamed/MDZS Bedtime Comfort Pods

knight_tracerBedtime Comfort Pods can be hard to define, but for me they are things I listen to when I'm expecting to be able to fall asleep after listening. For this they should be under an hour (if they are longer I may deliberately stay up longer to finish), not be too distressing and I have to have listened to them before (if I am extremely sleepy I may need to not finish them). Ideally they should also leave me feeling happy and soft.

This is the very first podfic I listened to in this fandom and is one of my favourites to listen to when I want to rest and relax. The performance bypumpkinpaix of WWX is truly delightful and filled with energy.

exmanhater does a great job of conveying the softness of LWJ here and WWX's vulnerability. The podfic takes you on WWX's emotional journey and is just so full of feelings.

Letters from abroad.
I find that the structure of exchanging letters really works for podfic, andjellyfishfire is great at bringing energy to the narration.

Summary: An experimental array has gone wrong, reverting Wei Ying to his six-year-old self. Wangji is determined to protect him until they can figure out what's wrong, but as much as Wangji is an expert in comforting his husband, this is a Wei Ying he has never known.
This one is a real rollercoaster of feelings (definitely one to listen to when I know I plan to stay awake for the full 56mins), andgodoflaundrybaskets is amazing at portraying WWX at his different ages.
6) The (Several) Convenient Kidnappings of the Chief Cultivator by the Yiling Patriarch byisweedan written by misscam - 36:29
Summary: “Yes, Clan Leader Jiang. It is most regrettable, but the Yiling Patriarch has once again kidnapped His Excellency. However, we have every confidence in His Excellency’s safe eventual return.”
“Of course you do,” Jiang Cheng says bitterly. “You get a more agreeable Chief Cultivator, and everyone is happy, right? You are all so happy the Yiling Patriarch kidnaps the Chief Cultivator on a regular basis. How can you not delight in the fact that Wei Wuxian has no shame and is revered for it? Aren’t you all thrilled, thrilled, that Lan Wangji is such good friends with Wei Wuxian that they spend so many friendly nights together and His Excellency returns like a lovesick fool afterwards and is so conveniently more agreeable?”

“I hate you all,” Jiang Cheng declares and stomps off.
This is such great fun!isweedan brings brilliant comic timing to their performance and I just love the sections with angry Jiang Cheng soooooo much.

Summary: Lan Wangji blinks at him owlishly. “I told you,” he says, voice small. “You pretended it never happened the next day. I took the hint.”
“What,” Wei Wuxian says.

As I said before, exchanging letters is a narrative device that really works for podfic listening. This one is so soothing and lovely.

Summary: Lan Wangji's head spins; he knows Lan Xichen had likely relayed this information to him in the past, but he'd been too fevered and out of his mind with pain to process it. A-Yuan is his son. Wei Ying's son is his son.
Lan Wangji made exceptions to his personal rules for Wei Wuxian, and that caused him nothing but pain. Now someone else - someone small who smiles with the same brightness Wei Wuxian once did - is slipping under his guard.
This is full of beautiful A-Yuan and LWJ feels, which just breaks my heart, but also fills me with joy.
10) Denumerable byknight_tracer written by chinxe - 54:54
Summary: If his scars make Wei Wuxian so uncomfortable, Lan Wangji thinks, then that is a problem easily remedied.
As with most affairs involving Wei Wuxian, it turns out to not be that simple.

I find my own voice very soothing, so I do re-listen to my own podfic from time to time. I find LWJ's point of view in particular quite calming because the narration becomes very even and I speak at a slightly lower pitch. I love this one because even though it is heart breaking, the emotional intensity is just so delightful.
